READER COMMENT ON BLACK REPUBLICANS

This is an anonymous comment from a reader regarding Black Republicans. This was posted in response to my call for everyone to vote on November 7th. The comment reads: The Republicans are something else. I don't understand how any black person can be a Republican. The RNC has openly stated that they have actively worked to siphon a small portion of the African American and Hispanic vote in order to win. They don't want the votes of people to color to speak to their intrest. They just want to win. In addition, the assualts of Affirmative Action are very telling. AA was a law that was created to rectify the results of the 400 years of laws of that this nation put in place that were deliberatly constructed to hold blacks "in our place." How anyone say that after only less than 50 years the injustices have been corrected?Even if you are black and think you have "arrived," how can you embrace a party that only wants you for one thing and has stated they will not give anything in return? Where is the compassion and empathy? It just baffles me. BLOGGER: Any Black Republicans care to respond to this comment? Any other thoughts about party affiliation and Black voters?

I am not a black republican but we all see things differently. What have the democrats done for blacks? maybe we should give another party a chance. If a person is black and middle class, they may think the economy and the tax issue are doing okay by them and thye may not choose to change leadership.

it's not as if black republicans only choice is to vote democrat -- they could also be independents or green party supporters.

yes the democrats are weak and spineless yet I would still like to hear cogent statements from black republicans on how they can socially, emotionally and spiritually support the republican party.

I mean didn't they see the new Harold Ford Jr ad playing on the reasons behind why so many black men got lynched in the South.

I mean come on.

If black republicans were honest and said that the economic thuggery of the republican party was the most appealing thing to them as republicans, I would respect that.

But how many times do you have to be told, you are only wanted to be used by the likes of Klan in Suits like Ken Mehlman and Karl Rove.

Every time I see a Republican on TV, they're talking about "Democrats take Blacks for granted." But, they NEVER say what Republicans will do that caters to African American interests. We know what Republicans offer evangelical/conservative Republicans (promises of fiscal restraint, talk of gay marriage constitutaional amendments, no stem cell research, anti-flag burning legislation, and any other wedge issue). But, what do they even pretend to offer Blacks! NOTHING!! When Colin Powell spoke at the RNC convention a few years ago, it was a disgrace. He called out the party for not appealing to Black voters. So, what the hell was he doing there (especially since affirmative action assisted him in his career)? I don't get it!
