IN THE NEWS: The Worse Apology in History!

Anytime you have celebrities and pseudo-celebrities doing TV interviews to apologize for saying things that we all know they really meant, it can be a very embarrassing situation. I mean, you sit there and you watch this person groveling because they fear losing their career opportunities.

Well, on cable’s Hannity and Colmes show, Duane “Dog” Chapman took his apology to an otherworldly level, when he said that he went to George Washington’s home in Mount Vernon and visited the site where Washington’s 300 slaves are buried. He says he is currently working on a deal to be buried at the site himself. I can only say…

“What the f*ck?!!!”

Dog says he wants his mistakes to be a lesson to other people. Apparently, someone in the future will know who Duane “Dog” Chapman is and will ask why this reality star is buried with Washington’s slaves. If that’s not the height of egomaniacal fantasy, I don’t know what is. Most people now don’t give a damn about Duane Chapman and they won’t care about him in the future, even if he’s buried with the slaves.

Let me be the first to tell you…

DUANE CHAPMAN HAS NO INTENTION OF REALLY BEING BURIED WITH THOSE SLAVES. It won’t happen! Period! But, I digress…So, Dog Chapman says that the answer to “Why is Dog buried here?” will be:

“Because that White man made a terrible mistake and he requested that…This is where I deserve to be, a grave without marker if they are going to be that, too.”

Well, he’d be the only person there that deserves a grave without a marker (his words) because those slaves certainly didn’t deserve to be thrown into unmarked graves.

My sister had me cracking up, when she said that it was funny hearing the Dog make those comments because he looked like an old Black man, who can pass for White. I had to look twice, but I can see what she means. Maybe, if we do his family history, Dog will realize that the idea of being buried with slaves isn’t so ridiculous after all!

The reality is that Dog should let those souls rest in the peace they didn’t receive in life. They’re probably turning in their graves right now in fear that this narcissist will be casting a shadow over them in the future.

Note to all celebrities and pseudo-celebrities: When making an apology, apologize and shut the hell up. You always make it worse, when you try to explain.

I don't see why he should apologize at all. Who apologizes for what they say on private phone calls? Also during the call, which he thought was private, he put his comments in context. He wasn't trying to insult blacks. He doesn't need to apologize, the overly sensitive people who blew this up into a big story do.

It's a private conversation that was made public by his son. No one is making Dog apologize. He is choosing to do so because he thinks it will help his career. A portion of Dog's viewers are the very people that he was disparaging on the private call, which was made public.

He can say, "I meant what I said regardless of whether or not it's politically correct."

He has a right to believe whatever he wants, just like the rest of us. He chose to apologize, just as many celebs/reality stars choose to apologize for remarks that are deemed socially inappropriate and offensive. All he had to do was not apologize and let the chips fall where they may.

The answer is not to blame the people who were offended. Dog could have said, "It was a private call. Period." There is no context to the call that explains the remarks he made. It was just him stating his views, which he has a right to.

Dog would be better off just owning it, instead of issuing apologies that make the problem worse.

I love when people throw around the words "overly sensitive" or "hyper-sensitive." It's always easy to say, when comments aren't targeted at you or your race and when there is no history of such vile and racist remarks being made against you or your people.

Who are you to decide what is overly sensitive in this or any other context? Is it overly sensitive because you don't like Whites apologizing to Blacks/you agree with what Dog said? If not, what would make someone who was offended be described as overly sensitive?

Again, the call may have been intended to be private, but it was made public by his son. There's no way to control the reaction to it now. Dog can own it or not own it.

If everyone is as thick-skinned as they expect Blacks, Jews, gays, etc. to be, the world would be a better place.

It's not unfair for Dog to apologize, if he decides to do so. The only thing that is unfair is to expect entire classifications of people to NOT be insulted, when you intentionally or unintentionally insult or demean their entire population.

Stephen Neal: What's the point of your question? If it was to offend...you did not! If it was to insult...I missed your point or whatever relevance you imagined it had! If it was an attempt at humor...you missed the mark by a long shot--and I can laugh at almost anything!
