QUICK TIPS: NETWORKING

Always take opportunities to network! No matter how quiet or reserved you may be, always take any available chance to get to know staff, managers, and directors within and outside of your department. Networking comes in handy because it creates champions that can push for you to receive special opportunities/benefits, can spread your positive reputation around the company, can make you a go-to person for special assignments, can create promotion and transfer opportunities, and allows you to make allies that can have your back at key points in your career. Always think about making a new friend/ally at your company. It’s easier to ask for someone’s help, when you’ve established some sort of positive relationship with a person.

This is true...another note - make sure you are not the type that smiles and jumps to get to know the white people and will barely crack a smile or say a simple "hello" to another black person, regardless of their position.

There was a young woman who needed a professional reference - another coworker told her that I would be a good person to ask - to make a long story short, I had to decline because I saw this person as unprofessional among other things. She started speaking, once she needed the reference.

This is just another example of a black person thinking that white people are superior and that the black race is inferior.

You are not lying. I've had Black people act like I was made of glass, when walking past them. They literally didn't see anything there. But, the second they needed something--all up in my grill! Or, they waited to start speaking to me once we worked on a project together. My thing is this, if you don't want to speak, then don't speak. You're not doing me any favors. However, it is really trifling and ignorant to treat other Blacks this way!
